Tributes paid to 'kind-hearted' Meath plasterer Martin 'Biggy' Reilly who died in Kells house fire

Tributes have been paid to "kind-hearted" Martin 'Biggy' Reilly after his tragic death in a house fire in Kells, Co Meath.

He and another man, John 'Froggie' Power perished in the blaze at the Blackthorn Close estate while two others managed to escape.

Mr Reilly, a father of one, lived at the house in Blackthorn Close, Kells but was originally from Dunlane, near Carnaross, Co Meath.

The other victim, Mr Power, was from Navan, Co Meath.

A death notice on RIP.ie read: "Martin was predeceased by his parents Liam and Peggy and his brother Peter and is survived by his heartbroken family: daughter Cora, brothers and sisters Pascal, Rosemary, Paula, Simon and his grandchildren Hailey and Ethan, Aunt Dettie, Aunt Eileen, nieces, nephews in-laws and a wide circle of family and friends.

"Martin, Biggy, as he was fondly known, was a gifted plasterer and his workmanship is greatly admired by many people in their homes throughout the county of Meath."

Kells Athletic Club also shared a poignant tribute to Mr Reilly, writing: "It's with heavy hearts we learned of the passing of a true gentleman Biggy Reilly of Kells.

"Our sincere condolences to our club members Aoife and Ann-Maire and the rest of the Reilly, O'Connell family at this tragic time.

"Biggy will fondly be remembered for his kindness and generosity to many people in Kells.

"He always had a smile on his face and he would never pass ya. A harmless gentle soul. Thinking of you all at this sad time. RIP."

A neighbour also paid tribute on social media, writing: "Rip Biggy...Neighbours are devastated with this sad news...sleep tight".

Mr Reilly's Funeral Mass and burial will be held privately in the coming days for family only.
