Tributes paid to 'inspirational teacher' Emily Seery as she's laid to rest after sudden death

The funeral of Emily Seery, a 34-year-old teacher from Co Offally, took place on Thursday in Edenderry.

Mourners gathered at St Mary’s Church, Edenderry, as Emily was laid to rest.

Emily taught in Coláiste Iosagáin in Portarlington and died suddenly last week to the shock of family, friends, colleagues and students.

She was described today as being the “the glue that held it all together” for those around her.

“To Emily, family was everything and to her family, Emily was everything,” her eulogy said.

“The various roles Emily fulfilled in her life included a loving wife, a devoted mother, a cherished daughter, a supportive sister, an inspirational teacher, a beloved friend and a talented entertainer, the list goes on.

“She touched everyone in a special way.”

Anecdotes were shared that highlighted her “sense of humour”, “wit” and ability to have a “lasting impact” on those she met.

Pupils from the school she taught in were present, forming a guard of honour for their late teacher.

A spokesperson for the school said: “Pictures show memories of her French trips and musicals that she spent hours and hours producing wonderful showpieces , for the Portarlington community to enjoy.”

The school’s musical group said: “Emily's love of directing the school musicals was evident in all rehearsals.

“She devoted countless hours of her time into these productions, staying late into the winter evenings and coming to school on weekends and through midterms to ensure that the best possible show was produced.”

Emily "will be sadly missed and forever remembered by her loving family", including her husband Vinny, her son Louie, parents Gerry and Yvonne and many more.
