Tributes paid to 'genuine' man who died after 'being hit by car' at Glasgow supermarket car

Heartfelt tributes have been paid to 'one of the most genuine people' after he was tragically killed after reportedly being hit by a car outside a Glasgow supermarket.

Glaswegian Derek Blackshaw, 46, died following the incident in the Cardonald Morrisons car park, just off Paisley Road West, around 11.35pm on Friday October 1.

He was pronounced dead shortly after being hit by the silver Ford Mondeo.

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the incident and police enquiries are ongoing.

Sergeant Ryan McAuley of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are with Mr Blackshaw’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“Our enquiries into the incident are ongoing and we would be keen to speak to anyone who believes they may have seen Mr Blackshaw in the area prior to the collision or the silver Ford Mondeo.

“Anyone with information can call 101, quoting 4048 of Friday, 1 October, 2021.”

Tributes have since poured in for Derek online.

One wrote: "Taken too soon, definitely one of the most genuine people who I knew , thinking of all the family

Another added: "Such a lovely guy can't believe this has happened, thoughts with his family at this very sad time."

Derek's rugby and football club, where he was a coach, also announced his tragic death and sent their condolences to his family.

A heartbreaking post from Cartha Queens Park Rugby Football Club read: "Cartha Queens Park RFC would like to offer our condolences to the family of Derek Blackshaw ex player & current u18's coach, who tragically passed away on Friday 1st October, our thoughts are with Angie, Callum, Grace, Faith & all other family & friends."
