Tributes paid to 'gentle giant' dad stabbed to death in own home in Firhouse

Gardai are set to launch a murder probe after a “gentle giant” was stabbed to death in his own home.

The man, who is understood to be in his late 60s, was found dead with horrific injuries at his home in Carriglea View, Firhouse, shortly before midnight last night.

Gardai received a 999 phone call from a person known to the victim - and rushed to the scene, where the father of two was discovered.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services, he was sadly declared dead at 11:50pm.

A man in his 30s, who is well known to the victim, was subsequently arrested and taken to Tallaght Garda Station.

He is currently being quizzed by detectives investigating the fatal attack.

Gardai are set to launch a murder probe following the death of the man, who was a local carpenter and ‘handyman’ around the area.

Neighbours have described to the Irish Mirror waking up to garda cars outside their home this morning.

“I woke up and saw the blue lights and cars outside my house.

“It’s completely shocking. He was a lovely man,” one neighbour said.

Another neighbour who know the victim well said - “He was a gentle giant.

“He was a big man and a lovely man. He was quiet and often kept to himself but he was very friendly and wouldn’t harm anyone.

“Everyone is in shock.”

The body remains at the scene this morning as forensic officers are due to arrive.

Two uniformed gardai are standing outside the home where the killing took place - with tape blocking the entrance and a red van in the driveway.
