Tributes have been paid to well-known Galway writer and journalist Liam Mac Con Iomaire following his death at the age of 81.
The Connemara native worked as a primary school teacher in Dublin before launching his journalism career with RTE.
The Gaeilgoir held several positions with RTE, including journalist, sub-editor and Nuacht reader.
He passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, May 5.
President Michael D Higgins led the tributes, saying: "Liam has had a major influence on the cultural life of this country, especially in relation to his native language and the rich heritage of the area where he was brought up in Connemara."

A death notice on RIP.ie reads: "Remembered with love by his wife Barbara (O’Carroll) and children Máirín, Máirtín, Colm, Ruairí, Darach, by their partners Dónall, Pádraic, Linda, Sheila, Mairéad and Aoife, by his grandchildren Seosamh, Aoife, Sadhbh, Myles, Iseult, Darach, Oisín, Lughán, Méabh, Caomhán, Colm, Saoirse, Féilim and Diarmuid and by his siblings Micheál, Máirín, Paddy, Máirtín, Colm, Treasa, Tomás and Bríd and by all his relatives and friends."

Liam's wake will be held at Massey Brothers Funeral Home in Blackrock, Co. Dublin this evening, May 7, from 3pm to 6pm.
His Funeral Mass will take place at midday on Wednesday (May 8) in the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, Foxrock followed by burial afterwards in Deansgrange Cemetery.
