Tributes paid to former Notts mental health nurse who died from coronavirus

Nottinghamshire Healthcare Trust has paid tribute to one of its 'popular' former nurses following her death from coronavirus.

Gladys Mujajati, aged 46, had an underlying health condition and had stepped away from her frontline duties as a mental health nurse due to the outbreak.

Her employer at the time confirmed on April 16 it had been told Ms Mujajati had died after testing positive for Covid-19.

She had previously worked in Nottinghamshire for six years and was described as having a "beautiful personality".

A spokeswoman for Nottinghamshire Healthcare Trust said: "Gladys was a popular member of the Trust’s BME Staff Forum and had worked for Nottinghamshire Healthcare for six years.

"She is fondly remembered by colleagues across Adult Mental Health.

"Tracey Houghton, service team leader with the Newark and Sherwoood LMHT, remembers Gladys’ beautiful personality and great work as a nurse.

"Our sympathies go to Gladys’ friends and family."

Ms Mujajati, of Littleover in Derby, was said to have had "a big heart" and had been working with Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust leading up to her death.

In a tribute to the "much-loved member", the Trust said: "It is with deep sadness that we confirm the loss of a much-loved community mental health nurse, who worked to support local people through the Derby City Community Mental Health Team for Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust."

Ifti Majid, chief executive of Derbyshire Healthcare said: “Gladys was a much loved member of the Derby City Community Mental Health Team and we are all devastated by her loss.

“Gladys had a big heart and colleagues have talked about how she always had a smile on her face. She was known to be a warm and caring individual, always looking out for her patients and colleagues, showing true compassion and empathy.

“It is clear that in Gladys we have lost a fantastic nurse, colleague and friend.

“Our thoughts and condolences are with Gladys’ family, friends and colleagues.”
