Tributes paid to former NFL player killed in fiery car crash

  • Former NFL and United Football League player Chris Payton-Jones, 30, died in a car crash in Alachua County, Florida, Saturday.
  • Payton-Jones died at the crash site after his sedan collided head-on with a pickup truck on State Road 24 and caught fire.
  • The United Football League issued a tribute, calling Payton-Jones a “beloved teammate” and “even greater man” who embodied hard work and resilience.
  • He played for several NFL teams, including the Arizona Cardinals, Detroit Lions, and Las Vegas Raiders, and later for the UFL's St. Louis Battlehawks before retiring in January.
  • Coaches and former high school staff remembered Payton-Jones as an exceptionally hard-working, positive individual and a dedicated father, who also ran a popular YouTube channel.
