Tributes paid to former Cookstown Leisure Centre manager Glen Lindsay

Tributes have been paid to a former manager of Cookstown Leisure Centre who sadly passed away on Saturday.

Glen Lindsay was a manager at the centre along with wife Tina, as well as other leisure centres in the area for 33 years and also worked as a swimming instructor in the Co Tyrone town.

A spokesperson for Mid Ulster District Council said: “To say that Glen was a well-known face in our leisure services team is an understatement.

“For more than 33 years, he was a mainstay of our leisure staff, primarily in Cookstown Leisure Centre and, more recently, in Greenvale Leisure Centre and then Maghera Leisure Centre.

“He was unendingly popular with customers and colleagues alike and we all held him in the highest regard.

“Of course, Glen and his wife Tina were a partnership at work and at home, and the grief we feel is nothing compared to that of his family who are our priority now as they deal with the shock of his loss.

“Glen will be sorely missed by all who knew him and the shock and sadness has been felt and expressed by the entire community throughout Mid Ulster. Our thoughts remain with Tina, Rebecca, Matthew and the wider family.”

Cookstown Swimming Club said they were lucky to have an association with Glen and his family.

“Our thoughts this weekend are with former club swimmers on the loss of their husband and father Glen.

“Both Glen and Tina coached with the club and were great supporters of the club in their time in management at Cookstown Leisure Centre.

“Cookstown Swimming Club were lucky to have an association with a family who have sport at their heart.

“Our greatest condolences are extended to Tina, Rebecca, Matthew and the entire Lindsay family at this extremely difficult time.”

Local football club Killymoon Rangers said Glen would be a huge loss to the local community and his friends and family.

The club added: “It’s with a heavy heart that Killymoon send our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Glen Lindsay.

“We are devastated. So many of our committee and players knew Glen. A huge loss not only to his family and friends but to the wider local community.

“Many of us will have encountered Glen through his love and commitment to grassroots and local sport, always a smile and a kind word - a complete gentleman.

“Glen entered many a fundraiser we ran as a club, attended events/games, and was always offering his support and best wishes to our club.

“Our club will hold a minutes silence at the next game, as a mark of respect & to remember a good friend of Killymoon Rangers FC.”
