The 33-year-old, who worked as a groundworker, had been reported missing on Wednesday, with police launching a search for him.

However, officers were called out to the B876 at about 8.40am where they discovered Scott dead within a car.

Now, his friends have paid emotional tribute to Scott online.

Lisa Macauley said that "you couldn't have met a nicer chap" and added: "So so sad. Thoughts with the family, and my heart goes out to amanda and his boys."

Another former work colleague John Borwick wrote: "Worked with Scott a few years ago what a fine lad he was so sad to be reading this condolences to his family."

Friend Ashlee O'Connor added: "Known Scott a really long time rip manny."

Tommy Sutherland posted: "Gutted to see this, thinking of Hugh and rest of ur family lad."

Inspector Nick Hough at Fort William Police Station said at the time: “Our enquiries into this road traffic incident are at an early stage. Although formal identification has still to take place, the family of missing person Scott Wares from Wick have been informed of this investigation.

"At this time there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances and a full report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
