Tributes paid to elderly woman who died after being hit by motorcycle in Ballinteer, Dublin 16

Tributes have been paid to an elderly woman who died five days after being struck my a motorcycle in Dublin.

Tressa McKernan, 75, suffered serious injuries in the collision as she got off a bus last Monday, April 8.

Gardai confirmed on Sunday that Ms McKernan tragically passed away at the weekend.

Neighbours paid tribute to the selfless pensioner who dedicated her life to helping people with Asperger's syndrome.

One neighbour told the Independent: "She has done so much for hundreds of families throughout the country."

Ms McKernan and her late husband Des, who reportedly have a son with Asperger's, were founding members of the charity Aspire - which offers support to those with the condition on the Autism Spectrum.

The neighbour added: "Before her and Des started Aspire, very few people knew what Asperger's syndrome was.

"Their son Colm inspired them to dedicate their lives to helping people with the condition.

"It's so heartbreaking to hear what happened, but Tressa left behind a wonderful legacy."

Another neighbour said: "Her husband died a few years ago, which hit her hard, but nevertheless she always had time to say hello and have a chat.

"She was so devoted to her son and was always visiting him throughout the week. He couldn't have had a better mum.

"I feel so sorry for him, but I'm sure he'll get the support he needs during this very sad time."

It's reported she was on her way to spend time with her son when she was struck on Ballinteer Avenue in Dublin 16. She sadly died at Beaumont Hospital on Saturday.

The motorcyclist, a man in his 30s, was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

Gardai have appealed for any witnesses to contact Dundrum Garda station.
