Tributes paid to East Kilbride YM legend Jimmy Neville after club's league win

East Kilbride YM dedicated their 4-0 win over Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers to club legend Jimmy Nevile, who passed away on Friday aged 78

Players and officials at East Kilbride YM respectfully observed a minutes silence prior to kick-off in remembrance an icon in local sport.

EKYM secretary Les Goodfellow said: “Jimmy played for and trained the YM in 1960s and 70s and was well respected by everyone with whom he came into contact with, be it through football, golf or bowls.

“The club send their condolences to Jim’s wife Janette and family at this difficult time.”

YM boss Graeme Robertson added: “Jimmy was at the opening of our Kirktonholme ground earlier in the year and everybody was delighted to see him there.

“Everyone at YM is upset to learn he’s passed away and we’d like to dedicate our win to him.”

In the match itself, Ryan Kelly crossed for David Kneale to grab the opener and five minutes later Kneale made it two, finishing off a fine move involving David Cameron and Craig Tocher

Ross McDonagh played his part in the final two goals, scoring with an 18-yard shot before his marauding run set up Mikey Carroll for the fourth.

The result puts YM into second place in the Caledonian League but their next competitive fixture is not until January 11, 2020 in round five of the Scottish Cup.
