Tributes paid to Cork University Hospital nurse following accidental death

Tributes have been paid following the death of a Clinical Nurse Manager at Cork University Hospital, Mohiddeen Khan.

It is understood that Mohiddeen died following an accident in India and that he had a wife and three young children in Cork.

He died on Monday, July 18 in his home country of India.

The Irish National Ambulance Service said: "NAS staff in Cork were saddened to hear of the death of clinical nurse manager Mohiddeen Khan. Our thoughts are with his family and his colleagues who worked with him in the emergency department of CUH."

Staff at University College Cork also paid their respects to Mohiddeen, who completed his studies in Emergency Nursing in Cork. UCC's School of Nursing and Midwifery said in a Tweet on Wednesday: "May he rest in peace. Condolences to his family and friends."

Last night, tributes flowed as the news of his death emerged. Emergency physician Dr. Chris Luke has worked across the UK and Ireland, including in Cork, paid his respects to the nurse, saying Mohideen was "one of the most gracious, good-natured and kindly nurses."

He said: "I was profoundly saddened to learn of the accidental death yesterday, in his native India, of Mohideen Khan... it has been my privilege to work with in my 40 years in medicine."

Many in Cork who knew Mohiddeen, who worked with him, and who were cared for by him in CUH's Emergency Department have paid tribute to the popular nurse.

Described as a "true gentleman," one fellow CUH staff member said "Always so kind, smiling and caring. Moh loved his job. A massive loss to ED CUH and no words could explain his family loss. May you Rest in Peace Moh."

One colleague said: "No matter how crazy it was in ED even in the wee hours, he was so kind and gracious. Softly spoken and a lovely colleague. Take care of each other in this hard time, lots of love and hugs to you all."

Another said: "I've had the absolute pleasure to know him through his wonderful son... My thoughts and prayers are with his wife and three children and his extended family... May his beautiful kind gentle soul rest in peace."

Another added: "One of the most wonderfully kind people I have ever worked with. A brilliant nurse, manager and father. Such a tragedy for his family. Rest in peace Moh."

Former patients of Mohiddeen have also paid their respects, with one person saying: "An amazing CNM who cared for me so well and always pops his head into Paed ED when he saw my son's name on the board,
