Tributes paid to Coatbridge mum as woman is charged over her death

A MUM-OF-TWO found dead in Coatbridge at the weekend has been described by stunned friends as “harmless” with a “heart of gold”.

A 28-year-old woman has been arrested over the death of Catherine Ann Campbell, 39, whose body was found by police at a property in the town’s Renfrew Place on Saturday.

Emergency services had been called to the scene at 5.25am following reports of a disturbance.

Pal Frankie Burns, who had known Catherine since they were teenagers, said: “She was harmless and had a heart of gold.”

He added on social media that it was Catherine’s son’s 18th birthday the day after her death.

Stacey Marie Clements described Catherine – also known as Katie – as “a beautiful woman, inside and out”.

Kelly Marie Caulfield, who attended college with Catherine last year, said she was “a lovely lady”.

Meanwhile, Andrea Muir Morrow wrote: “A beautiful soul taken too soon.”

And devastated pal Kari-Ann Hamilton told the Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser’s sister paper the Daily Record: “I just can’t believe this has happened.

“We were old friends and she was lovely – always keeping in touch asking how me and my family were.

“She’s been taken far too soon.”

Detective Inspector Pauline Thomson, of the Police Scotland major investigation team, confirmed Catherine’s death is being treated as suspicious.

She added: “Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of Catherine Ann at this difficult time.

“Inquiries continue into the exact circumstances surrounding the death.

“We have an increased police presence in the area and would like to reassure the public there is no threat to the wider community.

“Anyone with any information that could assist with our investigation is urged to contact officers on 101.”

A 28-year-old woman has been charged in connection with Catherine’s death and she is due to appear at Airdrie Sheriff Court today, Monday, July 27.
