Cambuslang is in mourning this week after the death of a beloved daughter of the town and one of its most prolific community activists.
Joy Anderson passed away peacefully surrounded by family and close friends in University Hospital Hairmyres on Sunday, July 7, two days after falling ill. She was 63.
Described as inspirational, Joy was passionate about improving the lives of people living in areas of deprivation and was a leading light in organisations such as Healthy n’ Happy Community Development Trust and Friends of Cambuslang Park.
Her “can-do” attitude saw her achieve so much for the most vulnerable people in the community.
Leading the many tributes to his “dear friend,” Friends of Cambuslang Park chairman Edward Cais said: “Joy by name and Joy by nature.
“Joy formed wide networks of contacts and friends who have been happy to do Joy a favour over the years.
“These attributes would come in handy on those rare occasions when not everything went according to plan and Joy would utter one of her favourite sayings: ‘Just wing it! It’ll be fine!’
“Joy will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. Those who worked with her will have a lot ofgaps to fill.”
Joy's funeral will be held at 12.30pm tomorrow (Wednesday, July 17) at South Lanarkshire Crematorium.
See tomorrow's Rutherglen Reformer for full tributes to Joy from all corners of the community.
