Tributes paid to bus driver hailed 'one of life's legends' after his sudden death

A much-loved and popular bus driver has died suddenly, leaving all those who knew him "deeply shocked and saddened".

Wynroe John was well-known in Swansea for his many years as a coach driver for South Wales Transport, and then more recently as a bus driver, where his services operated on the Clydach route.

Mr John's friends say that he was admitted to Morriston Hospital last week to have stents fitted to his heart, and was sent home on Boxing Day. But, tragically, on Wednesday, December 29, he had a heart attack at his home in Trebanos and passed away. He was 61.

A statement from South Wales Transport read: "The company is deeply shocked and saddened to announce the sudden passing of Wynroe John, one of its employees.

"Wynroe will have been known to many in the bus and coach industry and his death will come as a shock to many. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time."

The bus services company posted the statement on their Facebook page, and people who knew Mr John were left shocked and saddened by the news. He was described as "one of life's legends" and "a lovely caring man". Others noted in their tributes that he was a "fun character" and "a diamond of a man".

Alongside his work as a driver, Mr John had a passion for being a naturist, and would enjoy going on trips to Tything Barn Naturist Campsite in Pembrokeshire, who themselves paid their own tribute on social media, writing: "You will be missed by many Wyn. Rest in peace our lovely friend."

One of Mr John's close friends, Greg Hayward, paid tribute to who he described as "a lovely, genuine person."

"I was friends with Wynroe for over 16 years," he said.

"When we met we just clicked. He said to me once I was the only brother he had. He was a really lovely, genuine person who would do anything for anybody and would not expect anything in return. He was fun loving and loved seeing people happy and he helped me a lot with my PTSD.

"He would go out of his way just to make sure I was okay, and if I wasn't, he was there like a bullet. I will miss him and his friendship enormously."
