Tributes paid to 'brightest ray of sunshine' as body is found in search for missing woman Leeanne Rutherford

A Scots mum who is believed to have tragically died after she went missing last week has been described as the "brightest ray of sunshine".

Heartfelt tributes have poured in for Leeanne Rutherford after police confirmed that a women's body had been found in a car near Aberfoyle on Monday afternoon, February 20. Police confirmed formal identification is yet to take but the 47-year-old's family have been informed of the discovery.

Leeanne went missing from Glenrothes on Thursday morning, February 16. Those who knew her have been left devastated by her disappearance.

A member of her family said they were all now heartbroken after the news today.

They said: "I cannot thank you all enough for the love and support we have received as a family over the last 5 days. Unfortunately now we are heartbroken."

A cousin also thanked the public for their help in the last several days, saying: "Thank you to everyone who shared Leeanne’s appeal and to everyone that has reached out since we received this tragic news. We are all truly devastated."

Leeanne was reported missing from Glenrothes on Thursday, February 16. She was last seen seen in the Collydean area at 10.50am. Officers said her disappearance was "out of character".

On Saturday police released CCTV images of her car believing she had been driving the vehicle. The body of a woman was found in a car at 2.30pm on February 20 in the Queen Elizabeth Forest Drive area, near Aberfoyle.

In a beautiful tribute one person said: "This is heartbreaking to read. Leeanne's family have my deepest condolences. She will be very much missed. A beautiful heart and an incredible soul."

Another added: "RIP Leanne. You were the brightest ray of sunshine and you’ll be sorely missed."

A colleague wrote: "So sad, Leanne was a great person to work with! Thinking of her family."

Speaking about Aberfoyle in Perthshire where a body was found, a woman said: "I hope the area is as beautiful as my friend."

Others said: "Heart breaking. Thinking of her girls and the rest of her family at this devastating time" and "Sorry to hear, this is awful news. Still can't believe it" and "A beautiful lady inside and out."

Police said there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
