Tributes paid to Blantyre man Alan McVey who died on summer holiday to Mexico

Tributes have been paid following the sudden death of a popular Blantyre man whilst on his summer holiday last week.

Alan McVey passed away after taking unwell whilst in Mexico with his husband Alan Aitchison.

It is understood he contracted pneumonia and was taken to hospital in the South American country, where sadly his condition deteriorated over a few days.

Alan, who set up  the Team Handsome  Fitness Facebook page, where he offered fitness advice and ran spin classes in the area in his spare time, has been described as “hard working and clever” and someone who “lived life to the full.”

His death has left his family and friends devastated.

A post on the Blantyre Telegraph Facebook page on Wednesday evening (July 24) it said: “Like many people in Blantyre we’re deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the sad passing of popular local man, Alan McVey.

“Alan passed away after becoming ill suddenly, whilst away on summer holidays in Mexico.

“He certainly lived life to the full. His likeable, kind nature saw him make many friends in and outwith Blantyre. He had a great sense of humour, a fun loving nature and people were naturally drawn to him.

“Hard working and clever, he also won many accolades at work, a real rising star.

“Others will know Alan for his passionate hobby in keeping fit and helping others to get fitter too, something that was very important to him.

“A family man at heart, the tragic news has left the community in Blantyre stunned.
