Tributes paid to BBC star Jade Smith after her body was found at beauty spot

The body of a young woman found at a beauty spot in Yorkshire has been identified as The Mighty Redcar star Jade Smith.

The 21-year-old featured in episode four of the popular BBC TV series campaigning for the Conservatives.

Her body was discovered at Huntcliff, a beauty spot in Saltburn, Yorkshire on Sunday evening, with police, the Coastguard helicopter and the ambulance service all seen at the scene at around 9pm.

Teesside Live reports that police aren't treating her death as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

After being filmed canvassing for the General Election, Jade was seen on the show about to jet off to Greece, where she spent a "brilliant few months" being a nanny and English teacher.

She remained close to her adopted Greek family but returned to Redcar, where she worked in adult social care.

Bright, bubbly and a loyal friend, she was a popular Rainbows and Brownies leader who loved kids, music and Disney.

Back in 2016 when she was an 18-year-old politics student, she temporarily quit the Tory party, claiming she had been victimised by officials.

However, she later returned to the party and in 2017, during a boozy night out in Crete, got herself an "I Love Boris Johnson" tattoo on her right leg.

Following the news of her death, tributes flooded in for the young woman.

Steve and Andrea Turner, who called Jade their "political daughter", said: "Jade was a beautiful person with a big heart, but we all knew she was a troubled soul.

"In many ways, she could be wise beyond her years but in others, her immaturity and naivety came across too often, which meant she could struggle to build relationships with friends and family.

"Even those she fell out with, though, will recognise that there was so much more to her and she will be missed.

"But to those of us that 'got her' she'll always be one of a kind."

Jade's best friend, Paige Beadle, said: "When she got laughing, she had one of those laughs that was contagious.

"Words can't describe how devastated I am to lose her."

Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland MP Simon Clarke, who called her "a remarkable and complex person".

He said: "She would be the first to say she had made some mistakes but she also had real qualities - not least a fierce work ethic, a mischievous sense of humour and a passionate love of our area.

"Anyone who saw her on The Mighty Redcar will remember her as a young woman who wanted to succeed and to make a difference.

"I am desperately saddened that she is no longer with us, and know that the sense of a life lost at its very outset will haunt many of us for many years to come.

"We won't forget her and she will be missed."
