Tributes paid following death of Bristol Rovers president Wael Al Qadi's father Abdul Qadar Al Qadi

Tributes have been paid following the death of Abdul Qadar Al Qadi.

Abdul was the father of Bristol Rovers club president Wael Al Qadi and the founder of the family's Arab Jordanian Investment Bank business.

He passed away on Sunday, February 16, aged 85, and, in a statement posted to the Gas' official website, the club paid tribute to the 'much-beloved patriarch'.

It said: "On behalf of everyone at Bristol Rovers Football Club, we would like to express our deepest sympathies and condolences to the Al Qadi family on the passing away of the much beloved family patriarch, Mr Abdul Qader al Qadi, on February 16th, 2020.

"Our thoughts and prayers on this desperately sad occasion are with his dear wife Suhad, club president Wael Al Qadi, his sons Hani and Samer and his extended family.

"May he Rest in Peace."

Rovers boss Ben Garner also paid his respects to the Al Qadi family.

He tweeted: "Sending sympathies and condolences at this difficult time.

"Thoughts and prayers are with the Al Qadi family."

Abdul Qadar Al Qadi founded the Arab Jordanian Investment Bank business in 1978, and it went on to become a multi-million pound business, and one of the biggest in the region.

It remains in the family's ownership, with Hani Al-Qadi now chairman of the company.

The family came to the awareness of Bristol Rovers fans in February 2016 when they became owners of the Gas.

Whilst Wael was the main family member behind the takeover, with Hani and Abdul both needing to be convinced, the duo subsequently became big fans of the Gas.
