Tributes paid as man found dead over Christmas period in Dublin City named locally

A man whose body was tragically found in Dublin City one day before Christmas Day has been named locally.

Homeless young man Michael Mois was discovered in Phoenix Park on December 23rd making him the third homeless person to die in the capital in just nine days.

Volunteering group 'Homeless Mobile Run' confirmed the heartbreaking news on their social media - Dublin Live reports.

This takes the number of homeless deaths in Dublin this year alone to nearly sixty people in what has been one of the most concerning years on our streets ever.

The group who provide food, drinks, clothes and toiletries every Wednesday on Grafton Street for the homeless said: "So sad to hear another one of our friends passed away on December 23 in the Phoenix Park, RIP Michael Mois, so sad."

Tributes flowed in for Michael who was described as a "beautiful man, with a gentle smile".

One person said: "I remember him from the the soup run. Lord rest his soul. So sad RIP Michael.

Another added: "RIP young man, you have a beautiful bed in heaven now. Rest easy.

A third said: "What a young man with a gentle smile, RIP Michael."

On December 21, a person, understood to be homeless was tragically found in the Frederick Street area.

Councillor and Inner City Helping Homeless CEO Anthony Flynn confirmed the news on his social media.

He passed on his condolences to the family and has urged that immediate action needs to be taken to stop similar deaths from happening over the Christmas period.

He said: "Another death of a person in homeless services this morning.

"That takes the number of deaths in Dublin to 59 that we are aware of.

"This number will continue to rise as long as as we continue to allow unregulated private operators increase bed supply with no training in the city."

And on December 17, one person died in a Private Emergency Accommodation facility in the city centre.

Councillor Flynn added: "Private Emergency Accommodation does not provide the level of wrap around support as Non-Governmental Organisations.
