Tributes paid as former Mansfield Town skipper Lee Collins dies aged 32

Former Mansfield Town captain Lee Collins has died at the age of 32, Vanarama National League club Yeovil Town have announced.

The Yeovil skipper and defender began his career at Wolves and also had spells with Hereford, Port Vale, Barnsley, Shrewsbury, Northampton, Stags and Forest Green.

Yeovil’s game at Altrincham on Friday has been postponed.

“All at Yeovil Town Football Club are mourning the loss of club captain Lee Collins,” read a statement on the club website.

“Lee sadly passed away yesterday and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

“We ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy at this time. The club will make no further comment at this time.”

Mansfield posted a tweet saying: "We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our former captain Lee Collins, who has passed away aged 32.

"Lee played for us from 2015 to 2017. Our sincere condolences are sent to his loved ones at this incredibly difficult time. Rest in peace, Collo."

Nottingham Forest tweeted: "Such sad news. Everyone at #NFFC sends their condolences to Lee's family and friends and all at

@YTFC"

And Notts County posted: "Our thoughts are with Lee's loved ones at everyone at Huish Park."

Ex-Stag Martin Riley tweeted three broken heart emojis.

Collins moved to Huish Park from Forest Green in 2019 and made 35 league appearances for the Somerset club, including eight this campaign.

His most recent outing came in a 1-0 defeat at Stockport on February 6.
