Tributes paid as Fingerbobs presenter Rick Jones dies aged 84

Tributes have been paid to children's TV presenter Rick Jones following his death at the age of 84.

Born in Canada, Jones first hit British screens in the 1970s as co-host of Play School.

Jones later appeared in shows such as Watch and Play Away.

He was perhaps best known for his work on 70s classic Fingerbobs, in which he created finger puppet characters.

Broadcaster Kay Burley wrote on Twitter: “Another part of my childhood fades. RIP Finger Bobs presenter Rick Jones. He was 84.”

Author and illustrator Garry Vaux hailed Jones as a "huge creative spirit" as he paid tribute on Twitter: "I'm very sad to report that Rick Jones, aka Yoffy from Fingerbobs has passed away aged 84.

"I initially interviewed him for my book many years ago and we stayed in touch.

"He was a huge creative spirit, a talented musician and a lover of life. I shall miss him greatly."
