Tributes paid as father of two killed in Taghmon, Co Wexford crash named locally

The man killed in a tragic crash in Co Wexford has been named locally as Martin ‘Fuzzy’ Casey.

Young dad Martin, who was 30, worked at Irish Pride Fine Foods.

Local Fianna Fail councillor Aidan Browne paid tribute to Martin who was “born and bred in Enniscorthy Town” but had moved to Taghmon to live with his partner and two children.

He said: “My sympathies to his family.”

Councillor Browne also revealed it was the second family tragedy in just weeks as Martin’s uncle had passed away about three weeks ago and Martin’s mother passed away when he was a child.

Enniscorthy United also shared a message of support on their Facebook page which read: “Really terrible news this morning re Martin "Fuzzy" Casey, who sadly passed away last night. 30 is simply no age to be taken.

“Everyone at Enniscorthy United sends their heartfelt condolences to Martin's family and friends.

“Rest in peace.”

Independent councillor John O’Rourke who is a distant relative of Martin’s also paid a heartfelt tribute.

He said: “God bless his family today, he was an outgoing kind gentle giant. He was involved in a lot of sports.

“My heartfelt sympathies go out to his brother Patrick and sisters Elaine and Anne.”

He added that Mr Casey’s father had passed away in recent years.

Mr Casey lived in Taghmon with his partner Esther Kelly and their two sons, Kayden aged four and Scott aged six.

Local Aontu councillor Jim Codd who lives in Taghmon, also extended his heartfelt sympathies to both the Casey and Kelly families.

He said: “I’m so saddened. Everyone in the area is devastated, devastated by it. I’d like to say on behalf of the community in Taghmon we’re devastated to hear such tragic news.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up by Martin's friends in aid of his family.
