Tributes paid as champion jockey Nooresh Juglall dies after race fall

Irish jockey Oisin Murphy was among those to pay tribute after the tragic death of Mauritian rider Nooresh Juglall on Saturday.

Juglall, 29, was aboard Rule The Night at Champ de Mars racecourse in Paris when the horrific incident occurred.

Another horse called Golden Tractor fell in front of Juglall's mount, who came down heavily before the home straight.

Juglall was taken straight to hospital but later died as a result of his injuries.

He was champion jockey in his native Mauritius last year, and was also the first Mauritian to be crowned champion apprentice in South Africa.

Murphy wrote on Twitter: "Rest in peace Nooresh Juglall. Life is precious. Prayers with your family and friends. Had the pleasure of riding with you in Hong Kong."

Juglall is survived by his wife Chaaya and one child.
