Tributes paid after sudden death of Northumberland County Councillor Paul Scott

The leader of Northumberland County Council has led tributes to a fellow councillor after his sudden death last week.

Councillor Paul Scott, who had represented the Seghill and Seaton Delaval ward since the local elections last year, died last week at the age of 46.

Speaking at Wednesday's meeting of Northumberland County Council's cabinet, council leader Glen Sanderson described him as "totally dedicated" and "inimitable."

Coun Sanderson said: "I would like to take this opportunity to just make reference to councillor Paul Scott, who died last week.

"He was a very terrier for the people he represented, I don't think I've ever come across someone who was such a hard worker.

"He was totally dedicated to the people he served.

"He also felt at times when people needed to be challenged, that they should be challenged and he did that in his own inimitable fashion. Some found it difficult to deal with, but he only never challenged unless he felt he was right - and he always was.

"I would like us to stand for a minute in his memory."

A Conservative councillor, Paul was elected to the Seghill with Seaton Delaval ward in May 2021, taking the seat from Labour's Christine Savage by 884 votes to 739 as the Conservatives secured their first ever majority on Northumberland County Council.

He also worked as a Constituency Support Manager for Blyth Valley MP Ian Levy.
