Tributes have been paid after a pensioner's body was found outside the front door of a block of assisted living flats.
Emergency services were called to Middleton Court on Parade Crescent in Speke, shortly before 7am on Tuesday morning.
Merseyside Police confirmed a short time later that a man in his 70s was found dead at the scene.
Scientific support officers could be seen at the building for most of the day after a large blue forensic tent was erected in front of the double glass doors of the building.
The circumstances of the man's death are not yet known and officers are currently treating the death as unexplained.
Tributes have been paid to the man on social media with many also sending condolences to his family.
One woman said: "R.I.P to the gent and thoughts are with his family and friends in Middleton court."
Another woman added: "How sad for his family and all the staff. RIP, heart goes out to his loved ones."
At witness at the scene told the ECHO : "There's a huge police presence at the old people's home in Speke situated behind the post office.
"Not sure what's happened but forensics just turned up."
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm officers attended a care home in Speke this morning (Tuesday 17 September) following reports of a sudden death.
"Police and the North West Ambulance Service were called to the premises, on Parade Crescent, just before 6.45am where a man in his 70s was sadly found deceased.
"At this time officers are treating the death as unexplained.
"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of his death."
The man's next of kin have been informed and he is in the process of being formally identified.
