Tributes paid after man who died in flat fire is named locally

A man who died in a flat fire in Kirkby has been named locally as Gordon.

Tributes have been paid to Gordon who died after a fire broke out at Quarry Green Heights, in Kirkby.

Emergency services were called to the scene, in the early hours of Tuesday, November 16, at around 1am after a blaze was reported in the high-rise building.

Once at the scene, a Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson confirmed crews discovered the body of a man at the property.

They said four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus put out the fire and left the scene at 3.39am.

Merseyside police, including forensic officers, were also in attendance as the force worked on a joint investigation with the fire service.

However this morning, a police spokesperson confirmed that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

His next of kin have been informed by Merseyside police.

Commenting on the ECHO Facebook page, Haley Edwards said: "Rip Gordon."

While Johnina Elizabeth Ryan added: "RIP Gordon."

A third person, Jenifer Martin said: "So sad RIP big hugs and kisses to his family and friends."

Ian Paul Penno commented: "Rest in peace ynwa."

Ashlee Ashy said the death was 'such awful news' and Dawn Elizabeth Millward added: "So sorry for his family,my thoughts are with them."

On the ECHO website, one user said: "R.I.P mate respect to the family at this very sad time."

Another added: "Rest in Peace. Thoughts are with his loved ones.

"Thoughts with emergency services too, who are dealing with a great deal lately."
