Tributes paid after lifelong Shamrock Rovers fan passes away

Shamrock Rovers are in mourning today after the passing of lifelong supporter Alan James Walsh.

A-J held a season ticket with the Tallaght club for many years alongside his father, Jim.

A popular figure, dozens of fans paid tribute to the Dubliner after the Hoops shared the news on social media.

The club said in a statement: "It is with deep sadness that we learn of the passing of Shamrock Rovers supporter Alan James Walsh (AJ) of Millbrook Lawns, Tallaght.

"AJ was a season ticket holder at Tallaght Stadium for many years coming to the games with his father Jim.

"We offer our deepest condolences to the Walsh family and the many friends of AJ at the his difficult time. He will be sadly missed at SRFC. Ar dheis de go raibh a anam."

A family funeral will take place due to government restrictions amid the coronavirus pandemic, a memorial ceremony will be held at a later date for those who are unable to attend the funeral.
