Tributes paid after death of Waterford All-Ireland winner Joe Harney

Waterford 1959 All-Ireland hero Joe Harney has died.

The Ballydurn clubman was corner-back on the team that drew with Kilkenny in that year’s All-Ireland final and again in the replay as Waterford claimed just their second and still their most recent Liam MacCarthy Cup success.

The deceased also won Munster titles that year as well as in 1957.

Waterford GAA wrote: It is with deep regret that we have learned today of the passing of Joe Harney, Ballydurn, member of the 1959 All Ireland winning team.

"CLG Phort Láirge extends its deepest sympathy to the Harney family at this sad time.

"Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam"
