Tributes paid after death of Newark and Sherwood District councillor

Tributes have been paid to a Newark and Sherwood District councillor who died last week.

Labour Group Councillor Kathleen Arnold represented the Blidworth Ward, first joining the council in May 1991.

Cllr Arnold stood for 16 years until May 2007, before leaving her position for a number of years.

Following a break in her role, she stood again in May 2015 and served in her position until her death – bringing her collective tenure as councillor to 22 years.

She died on Wednesday, August 4.

Newark and Sherwood District Council Leader, Cllr David Lloyd, said: “On both and personal and professional level, Kathleen was always immensely friendly, collegiate and kind.

“She represented her ward, and those living there, with a style of modest but stoic compassion that she carried into everything that she did.

“She will be sorely missed.”

In another tribute, Cllr Peacock, Leader of the Labour Group for Newark and Sherwood, said: “Kathleen was a vital member for Blidworth and she’ll be sadly missed.

“She spent decades working in the local community supporting others and we’ll miss her hugely.

“I offer my condolences to her friends and family and her actions as Councillor will be remembered for years to come.”

Newark and Sherwood is the largest of seven district councils in Nottinghamshire – covering a third of the county.
