Tributes paid after death of 'immensely talented' Irish amateur actor 'too beautiful for this world'

Tributes are being paid to a popular amateur actor who died in Co Sligo last week.

Nicola Oates, from Sligo Town, passed away after being in the care of North West Hospice Sligo.

The theatre community in the region have been extending their condolences to her husband, Stephen, family and friends following her death.

Nicola was described as "immensely talented" and remembered for her "mesmerising portrayals" and "spellbinding roles" on stage.

Sligo Drama Circle said last week: "We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Nicola Oates (Morrison). We wish to express our deepest sympathy to Stephen, Eileen, Rosalind and her wider circle of family and friends.

"Nicola was well known to grace the Sligo stage and appeared in many productions for various groups. Her talent was immense and it shone through her performances on stage. May she rest in peace."

Everyman Productions Sligo added: "It is with the deepest sadness that Everyman Productions has learned of the untimely passing of Nicola Morrison-Oates.

"Her incredible talent shone through in many of her memorable performances, both in the Hawk's Well Theatre, Sligo and further afield.

"Few will forget her mesmerising portrayal of Rosie in Dancing at Lughnasa, or her award-winning appearance in The Mai.

"Nicola's last collaboration with Everyman was opposite the late John Caheny, with her spellbinding role in Educating Rita.

"She is quite simply irreplaceable and her immense talent was matched only by her warmth and sincerity.

"Everyman Productions wish to extend our deepest sympathy to Stephen, Rosalind, Eileen and her extended family. May she rest in eternal peace."

Fellow actors and people from her local community also paid tribute to Nicola and said she was "too beautiful for this world".

One person said: "What a gem Nicola was, she was a tonic to be around. I'm delighted to have shared great times with her on stage and off."

A second wrote: "Nicola was such a talented actress, and great company. I’ll always remember that trip to the Isle on Man with The Mai for the All Britain drama finals. Which we won! RIP Nicola. Gone far too soon."

While another person added: "I’m at a loss of words. She was truly too beautiful for this world. I’m happy we were allowed to have her for a brief moment and that I had the honour of knowing her."

Nicola was laid to rest in Sligo town on Saturday.
