Tributes flow for international cricketer dead at age 38

Tributes have flowed from around the cricketing world for former Scotland international Con de Lange, who died aged 38 after being treated for a brain tumour.

De Lange played 13 one day international matches for Scotland, including taking 5/60 to help Scotland to its first ever ODI victory over a full member side against Zimbabwe in 2017.

He also captained Scotland to victory over Sri Lanka in a list-A match earlier that season.

A Cricket Scotland statement said that de Lang "took ill" at the end of 2017 and that he was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

"Con's death at such an early age is a tragedy," Cricket Scotland chairman Tony Brian said in a statement.

"He was a great servant to cricket in Scotland as well as South Africa and elsewhere, not just in the national team but also at regional and club level with his infectious and inspirational commitment, both as player and coach.

"But above all, we will remember Con the man — competitive, committed and the ultimate team player, someone with unshakeable principles and integrity.

"He will be greatly missed and very fondly remembered by many throughout the world of cricket."

Tributes came in from around the cricketing world, with greats describing de Lange as a "warrior," while former Australian quick Jason Gillespie described de Lange as "one of the nicest blokes I've ever had the pleasure of meeting".

De Lange began his career in his native South Africa, where be played for Boland before stints with Cape Cobras, Knights and Free State.

Tributes also flowed from former teammates and opponents in the UK, where de Lange played for two seasons with Northamptonshire in the County Championship.
