Tributes flow for mother stabbed in her home, allegedly by her son

Avalon mother Lanell Latta, who was fatally stabbed in her northern beaches Sydney home yesterday, has been remembered as a "beautiful spirit", as her son is formally refused bail for her alleged murder.

Ms Latta's partner Geoff Robson-Scott said the pair were the happiest they had been.

"She was such a beautiful woman — she was beautiful in spirit, she's the kindest person I've ever known, she was so loving," he said.

Ms Latta, 50, was found inside the Marine Parade home at 10:45am on Monday after reports of a fatal stabbing.

A neighbour told the ABC she heard a female scream while she was having breakfast.

Ms Latta's son, Joel Woszatka, was charged with murder on Monday night.

He was also charged with domestic assault occasioning actual bodily harm, relating to an alleged attack on a male victim.

He chose not to appear in Manly Court this morning and was formally refused bail, with the matter adjourned to local court on September 26.

"It's just such a huge tragedy that's happened here, there are no words, it's just a shattering thing," Mr Robson-Scott said.

Tributes to Ms Latta were posted online.

Michael Bienke posted a tribute to his childhood friend from Byron Bay on Facebook.

"RIP my dearest Lanell. Somehow, we all have to look forward to better days, and catching up with the ones we love and lost in the happy hunting grounds," he wrote.

"As hard as it is right now to see that, Lanell would ask nothing less."

Community group Voice of Byron posted about Ms Latta's death.

"The world has lost a beautiful soul in Lanell Latta," a post from Chris Duffy said.

"She was taken from us yesterday way too early, in tragic circumstances, and I'm sure that all of us who knew here will miss her dearly."
