Friends are sharing tributes for Sydney woman Thi Kim Tran following her death, which sent shockwaves through the southwestern Sydney community on Thursday.
Tran is believed to be the 45-year-old woman who was allegedly kidnapped by five masked men and found dead in a burnt-out car in southwestern Sydney.
Police were called to a home in Bankstown at 10:30pm on Thursday following reports that a 45-year-old woman had been abducted from her home by masked armed invaders, who also assaulted her eight-year-old son with a baseball bat.
Following the incident, a body was found in a burnt-out car, 6km away.
According to The Daily Telegraph, the eight-year-old is currently in intensive care and has been placed in an induced coma due to head trauma. His 15-year-old brother had minor injuries. Tran’s husband, who was interstate on business, has returned to Sydney to be with his children.
Tran’s loved one have shared tributes to her on Facebook.
“Life is short, love each other. You leave us with grief,” wrote friend Jenny Mai in Vietamese, per The Daily Telegraph.
“If one day your best friend leaves you forever, you will cry.”
While police continue to track down the masked men responsible for the horrific crime, the Sydney Morning Herald reported that investigators believe Tran is an innocent victim of a sophisticated organised crime group.
“This crime is horrendous, the level of violence is unheard of,” Superintendent Rodney Hart told the media on Friday.
“But I want to reassure the community we strongly believe this is a targeted incident and this has not been a random kidnapping.”
According to femicide researcher Sherele Moody, Tran is the 23rd woman killed in Australia this year.
