Tributes have poured in for the popular owner of a Crumlin chipper who has been described as one of the area's "finest men".
Slivio's on St Agnes Park announced this morning that they would be closed for the weekend following the death of Pompeo Socci.
They wrote on Facebook: Due to the Death of Our Loving Father, Pompeo, Silvio's Crumlin will be CLOSED this Weekend. Thank you for your kind messages."
Locals who remembered "gentleman" Pompeo quickly flooded the post with their condolences.
One woman wrote: "RIP Pompeo . Years of memories in the chipper."
The Crumlin Facebook page also paid tribute, writing: "Crumlin lost one of it’s finest men today. Pompeo Socci from Silvio’s Food Fare. RIP."
Former staff and customers of the long-established chipper shared their memories of the hugely popular local figure.
One man wrote: "RIP Pompeo. What a great man with great craic and slagging over the years.
And lovely gent and will be missed from all the people from Crumlin and all over. Thanks for the lovely memories, especially Italia '90."
Another woman added: "RIP, used to work for him years ago. Condolences to his beautiful family."
While one local wrote: "Rip Pompeo. A true gentleman, will be sadly missed."
