Tributes flow as heartbroken friends and family learn of sad death of well-known Dublin teacher

Heartbroken family and friends have been paying tribute to 88-year-old Dublin teacher Sean 'Lauri' Forde who sadly died over the weekend.

Mr Forde was well-known in the Raheny area having taught hundreds of pupils at Scoil Assaim over a long period.

The Howth Road resident sadly died after a stint at Sacred Heart Residence, Sybill Hill in the loving care of the sisters and staff there.

He is sadly missed by his wife of 59 years Ellis, adored by children Fiona, Fionnuala, Anthony and Brian and much loved granddad of Daniel, Oisin, Meadhbh and Gráinne.

'Lauri', as he was known to close friends and relatives, had an obvious lifelong interest in teaching and learning but was also a keen player of chess and lover of amateur radio and the FCA.

A private mass took place for Sean on May 12 at The Church of St John the Evangelist in Kilbarrack.

Many who would have liked to have attended but couldn't let the family know online that they were thinking about them and also mourning the loss of their former teacher.

One former student fondly remembered what Mr Forde had done for him when his dog died.

He said: "A little story comes to mind the day my dog had to be put down.

"I told Mr Forde the story and he tried to console me the best way he could. The next day after school he arrived at my house with a kitten."

Another said: "I will remember him as a lovely man. Sincere condolences to his wife and extended family. May he rest in peace."

A third added: "A lovely man, he was my teacher in 2nd class and for many more years in the chess club. RIP."

A fourth commented: "RIP, I remember Mr Forde when I was in Scoil Assaim from 1973 to 1975, he was a substitute teacher for me on a few occasions. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam
