Tributes flow after young Coolock woman tragically found dead named locally

Tributes have been flowing in for a young north Dublin woman tragically found dead in the city centre last week.

Winnie Joyce - from Coolock and in her late 30s - was understood to be using homeless services when she died in the James Street area last Wednesday.

Close friends paid tributes to Winnie with sources telling Dublin Live that foul play is not suspected following her untimely death.

One pal said: "Can't believe I am writing this status. R.I.P Winnie Joyce, I'll remember all the good times we had. You're with your brother and all your family now. Hope you get the best bed in heaven, sleep tight hun until we meet again."

Another added: "I am devastated. I was only talking to Winnie not too long ago. R.I.P baby sister.

Inner City Helping Homeless founder and Councillor Anthony Flynn also passed on his sympathies to Winnie's family.

He said: "A woman died this week, her name was Winnie.

"On average, ten people a month have passed away so far this year with over 45 homeless people dying in 2021.

"These are people's sons, daughters, brothers and sisters. We haven’t heard a word from the Taoiseach Micheal Martin or Housing Minister Darragh O'Brien."

Volunteers from service group Feed Our Homeless were working hard last night on the streets of Dublin once again issuing a plea to the public.

They said: "Out on the streets of Dublin, the FOH outreach teams were briefed at our HQ in Finglas before they left to carry out their nightly outreach service across the capital.

"We were engaging with those out on our streets who may be experiencing homelessness and also talking to those who will be sleeping out in the streets for the night ahead."

They added: "If you see or know of any homeless person out on the streets tonight who may be in need of support, please let us know."

A Garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "Gardaí are investigating the death of a female, aged in her 30s, that occurred at a premises in the James Street area of Dublin 8 on 19/05."

"The remains have been removed to Dublin City Mortuary."

He added: "No further information is available and enquiries are ongoing."
