Tributes flood in to Motherwell murder victim as 30-year-old man named locally as Terry Smith

A man who was stabbed to death in a Motherwell tower block has been named locally as Terry Smith.

Tributes were paid to the 30-year-old, who was found in a flat in Doonside Tower by police in the early hours of this morning.

Emergency services rushed to the scene where Terry was found with serious injuries, however he later passed away at the scene.

Detectives have launched a murder probe but said they are following a positive line of enquiry, as reported by the Daily Record .

Today his aunt, Bobbie Duff, took to social media to pay tribute to her nephew.

She wrote: "Do people that carry knives not understand they ruin lives. My family have been torn apart because  of ***** using knives.

"Don’t understand how this could happen....I'm at a loss my poor sister is broken."

It's understood police raced to the scene after reports from neighbours of a disturbance.

Several emergency services were spotted in the area by locals as officers descended on the property.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "We are currently following a positive line of enquiry on this incident.

"If you have any information on this incident phone 101 quoting incident number 408 of August 13."
