Tributes flood in for Scots backpacker after body found in Australia

Tributes have flooded in for a 24-year-old Scots backpacker after his body was discovered by detectives in Australia.

Euan Stevenson, who was originally from Galashiels, had been living abroad for two years and had been due to fly home to Edinburgh in less than three weeks when he disappeared.

Officers in Melbourne launched a desperate search in a bid to find Euan after he failed to turn up to work on Wednesday 4 March.

However, police in Australia have now confirmed that his body was found last week.

Tributes have since flooded in on social media as heartbroken friends react to the tragic news.

“Speechless, Rest in peace stevo", said one friend.

One person posted: “Rip Stevo thoughts with friends and family." Meanwhile, another friend wrote: "So sad may you Rip."

Euan's sister Joanne Stevenson previously issued a heartfelt appeal on social media, writing: "Euan, if you see this, please make contact with anyone and know that we love and care for you so much, we just want to know you are safe."

Scots singer Gerry Cinnamon even called on fans to keep an eye out for Euan earlier this month in a post on his Instagram story.
