Tributes flood in for Scot teen Alix Cassidy who died after cancer misdiagnosed as arthritis

Tributes have been pouring in for Scottish teenager Alix Cassidy who died after her cancer was misdiagnosed as arthritis.

The 17-year-old passed away on Tuesday after losing her battle with an aggressive cancerous tumour on her spinal cord.

Her family launched a crowdfunder in a desperate bid to fund treatment and managed to raise more than £17,000.

They were hopeful stem cell treatment could help her.

However, yesterday they announced the sad news that Alix, from Drumchapel in Glasgow , had passed away.

She had initially visited her GP in October 2018 after her fingers went numb and she was struggling to use them.

She was sent home with painkillers and following more trips to her local GP and A&E she was repeatedly misdiagnosed before the tumour on her spine was discovered.

Lots of people have been paying tribute to the teenager and say that she 'touched the hearts of the nation' with her heartbreaking journey.

Many of those sending condolences to Alix's family donated to the crowdfunding page.

Her family had posted saying anyone who wanted their money back could have it with money not returned used for Alix's funeral or donated to charity.

One crowdfund donor, named as Collette, paid tribute to the teenager saying: "Alix touched the hearts of many people with her story.

"Thoughts and condolences are with you all. The stars will shine a little brighter tonight in her memory. Rest in peace sweetheart x."

Many donors were happy for Alix's family to keep their money.

One called Jo said: "I’m sure that everyone who donated would much rather you keep this money to take as much time out that you need to heal. It is certainly my wish."

Others have been expressing their anger at Alix's misdiagnosis.

Michelle Wilkie said: "Wrong diagnosis and now she paid ultimate price. Sad news. Hope u now at peace and pain free and u have your Angel wings on x"

Kelly Maddocks said: "Utterly heartbreaking this... To think it could've been prevented! Rest in Paradise beautiful."

Yesterday's heartbreaking post from Alix's family confirming her death read: "We would love to thank everyone for their amazing donations and messages.

"Sadly our warrior passed away yesterday morning and is now at peace.

"We understand if anyone would like their donations back but the money raised will now be used to give our baby girl the send off she deserves and the rest of money will be donated to a charity.

"Thank you for all the support."
