Tributes flood in for 'bubbly' Irish woman who died after reaction to coffee

Tributes have been paid to a 'special' and 'bubbly' young Irish woman after she passed away from a reaction to a coffee on holiday.

Aika Doheny had been in Japan visiting family when she became seriously ill earlier this month after drinking what is believed to have been a soya-based coffee.

After many efforts to ease the allergic reaction, she was taken to hospital and entered the ICU.

After being flown home to St James's Hospital for further treatment from Tokyo, she passed away last Thursday.

Tributes have poured in for the talented swimmer since news broke of her untimely death.

An online book of condolences has been opened for Aika, with people flooding to it to pay tribute to their former freind.

"Our heartfelt sympathy to the Doheny family on the tragic loss of your special girl Aika" one read, while another said that Aika was " a beautiful young girl, taken too soon."

"Aika was such a beautiful friend inside and out and always put a smile on our faces" noted a third, with a fourth tribute reading: "She had the most beautiful soul and was never anything but the kindest of people while we were at school together"

A friend of hers who was part of her swim team wrote: "She was a wonderful friend and had such a bright energy, she made swimming training on the darkest of mornings seem easy."

Another person summed Aika up by writing: "Aika was such a lovely, bubbly person"

The death notice on RIP.IE reads: "Aika Caoimhe, beloved daughter of Mayumi and the late Paul and cherished sister of Paul Makoto and Cian Takuya, sadly missed by her heartbroken mother and brothers, grandmother Sachiko Wakao (Tokyo), aunts, uncles, cousins in Ireland, Japan and the USA, extended family, neighbours and her many friends."
