Tributes flood in for 'beloved' Meath couple who died just six days apart

Tributes are flooding in for a Meath couple who tragically died – aged 93 and 85 – just six days apart.

Seamus and Shelagh Bellew both died this month, leaving behind an enormous loving family after passing within a week of each other.

Seamus, 93, died peacefully at Moorehall Lodge nursing home in Drogheda on February 7.

Six days later, his wife Shelagh also passed away, aged 85.

The couple were from Annagor at Bellewstown in Meath – and family and friends were quick to pay tribute to a couple that one said were "beloved" by all who knew them.

Tributes came in their dozens for the elderly couple, who passed away within days of each other (RIP.ie)

Seamus, according to one sympathiser, was always a "gentleman" – while Shelagh was hailed as a "lady, true and true."

The couple are survived by dozens of loving relatives.

"Loving mum and dad to Valerie, Louise, Bryan and Roslyn," said a death notice.

"Sadly missed by their son, daughters, son in law Michael, daughter in law Suzanne, grandchildren Sam, Robbie, Sara, Amy, James and Peter, Shelagh’s sister Kay, Seamus’s sister Margo, brothers in law, sisters in law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends."

One condolence, signed by the "people of Killorglin", read: "May your precious parents rest in peace.

"An enormous sad occasion to lose both.

"Sympathies to all their family."

Another well-wisher wrote that in a touching post that the couple are "both resting in each other's arms."

A third – among hundreds to send their regards to the family – added: "It was with shock and sadness that I heard of Shelagh's passing.

"Shelagh was a lady, true and true, devoted to her family, and she missed Seamus from when he could no longer live at home.

"The ways of God are strange - not always in the giving, but sometimes in the taking away - only God knows best, and he has granted Shelagh and Seamus their heavenly reward to share together.

"May their souls rest in peace.

"Heartfelt condolences to all the Bellew family on the loss of Shelagh and Seamus."
