Tributes flood in as teenager shot dead in street is named

Tributes have flooded in to a teenager shot dead in a "cold-blooded" street execution as he was named by shocked locals.

Merseyside Police launched a murder investigation into the shooting on Thursday, in the cul-de-sac of Boode Croft in Stockbridge Village.

Nyle Corrigan, 19, was found bleeding and injured on the floor and despite the efforts of the emergency services he sadly died a short time later.

His next of kin have been informed.

The scene was quickly cordoned off by police officers and forensic specialists, who are expected to remain at the scene on Friday.

Hundreds of tributes have flooded in on social media to the teenager, as people expressed their shock and heartbreak at the news.

Paying tribute, one friend wrote: "19 years old and now that's it hes gone. NINETEEN YEARS OLD. I'm heartbroken.

Sinead Colquhoun said: "Omg what's this world coming to."

Shortly after the killing, Detective Inspector Tony O'Brien shared his condolences with the man's family and once again issued a statement to condemn those who continue to use guns on our streets.

He said: "The investigation is in its early stages and extensive inquiries are being carried out to establish the motive and to identify those responsible.

"This was a cold blooded, targeted attack on a residential street which has taken away the life of a young man and tonight a family are mourning their tragic loss.

"The people responsible for this attack knew exactly what they were doing and they need to be caught.

"There is no place in Merseyside for firearms, or those who use them and bring fear to our communities.

"We need members of the public to come forward with information so we can keep our streets safe.

"I would urge anyone who saw anything, or who has any information, which could help us with our enquiries to contact us urgently.

"You may not think that the information you have is significant but it could help us with our enquiries."

A Home Office post mortem will be carried out to establish the cause of death.

Anyone who has any information which could help detectives with their inquiries is asked to contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
