Tributes have flooded in for a person killed in a "devastating" house fire that ripped through a couple's home.
On Boxing Day three fire engines rushed to Church Road, in Litherland, after a fire broke out in a bedroom at about 2.40pm.
Despite the best efforts of emergency services, Merseyside Fire service said a person died at the scene.
Another person was taken to hospital, the force said, but it is not clear what their injuries are at this stage.
Neighbours at the scene said a "lovely couple", believed to be aged in their 70s, lived at the blackened home.
It's believed the couple lived on the street for years, neighbours said.
One neighbour passing the fire called it "absolutely devastating".
Dozens of well wishers offered their condolences to the victims, and their families.
Pam Paul simply said: "Devastated. Can't believe it."
While Carol Meehan said: "Very sad, seen the police there before. Thinking of the family at this sad time."
Colette Leatherbarrow said: "Awful, love and thoughts are with their family xx"
Rose Rose wrote: "RIP. Deepest sympathies to family and friends. Hope the other person taken to hospital is ok."
Another user, who commented on the ECHO's website, wrote: "I passed the scene as it was happening, a huge response by the emergency services, but sadly a person died.
"Such a tragic event at this time of year, RIP."
One neighbour told the ECHO the couple who live in the home are from Litherland and called the fire "really sad".
