Tributes flood in after man dies in building fall

Tributes flooded in for a man who died after falling from an apartment building on New Year's Day.

The man, who was in his 20s, fell from an apartment building on Fox Street in Everton at around 9.20am today.

Merseyside Police and North West Ambulance Service attended the scene on New Year's Day but the man died a short time later.

An air ambulance also attended and landed near Everton Park at around 9.30am today.

Forensic officers were also at the scene and a police cordon surrounding the building was erected.

Tributes were paid online to the man, who has not yet been formally identified.

Police confirmed they were working to identify the man's next of kin.

ECHO readers said the news was "heartbreaking" and many paid their respects online by offering condolences to the man's family.

Helen Mcallister wrote: "So sad. Thinking of his family and friends."

Christine Robson added: "So tragic. My heart goes out to family. RIP young man, god bless you."

Philis Parkes also wrote: "So sad. Thinking of the family at this very sad time."

Linda Forrest Cassidy said she witnessed the emergency service response earlier this morning.

She wrote: "Seen this all unfolding this morning. By the amount of emergency services and helicopter I knew it was serious and was praying he would be okay. So sad — absolutely heartbreaking. Thinking of his family and friends."

Paula Steadman also saw the air ambulance overhead this morning, as she added: "That's why the helicopter was over ours. So sad. His poor family."

Carmel Faulkner paid her respects to the young man and also shared her support for the emergency services.

She wrote: "New Year's morning too. How sad a young life so easily gone. Thoughts and prayers with his family and friends. Thoughts also to the emergency services. Can't have been a nice start to their new year."

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said the man's death is being treated as "unexplained."

They said: "We can confirm emergency services attended Fox Street, Liverpool on Saturday (January 1) following a report a man had fallen from apartments.

"Officers received a report from the North West Ambulance Service at around 9.20am that a man in his 20s had fallen.

"He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

"His death is being treated as unexplained and officers are working to identify his next of kin.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
