Lovingly kissing his devoted mum, this is tragic Layton Darwood, whose death has united the city in grief.
Friends, family, businesses and complete strangers from across the North East have come together to support the five-year-old's heartbroken parents as they prepare to lay their precious boy to rest.

Layton died in hospital last Monday after being involved in a collision with a white Ford Transit van, on Willow Avenue in Fenham, Newcastle, near his home.
Since the tragedy around £10,000 has been raised to help pay for his funeral through Facebook raffles and an online fundraising page
And today a close friend of the youngster's mum, who set-up 'Layton's Fund', has paid tribute to the little boy as she thanks the community for their support.
Maxine Forster said: "He was lovely. He was a quiet little boy and quite shy. He loved Spiderman. He was so cute, he was lush. I just can't believe this has happened."

And the mum-of-one has told of her heartache for Layton's brave parents, Stephany Richardson and Stephen Darwood.
She added: "She is just so strong. She's a fantastic mam, she has been since the day she had her three kids. No mother deserves to lose their child, but she's just a brilliant mam."
"I have also spoken to Stephen a few times and they are both just devastated," she added.
Maxine has been close friends with Stephany for around eight years.
When she heard what had happened to Layton the 26-year-old, along with another friend Carley Laws, decided they had to do whatever they could to help.

The pair set-up Layton's Fund and asked local businesses to donate raffle prizes.
They initially set out to raise just £50, but after scores of businesses from across the region offered their products or services as prizes the fund has now reached almost £4,000.
Every penny will be donated to Layton's family to help cover the cost of his funeral.
"I just have no words for them at all. I didn't know where to put myself and that's why I started the fundraising," Maxine explained. "I had to do something. We can't give her her baby back, but we can try to take some of the stress off her."

And Maxine, who now lives in Ashington, has been overwhelmed by the generosity of businesses both big and small as prizes, ranging from tattoos and beauty treatments to caravan holidays and furniture, come flooding in.
"It only started off as one raffle to raise £50. I had no idea it was going to take off like this. We have had hundreds of donations from all different businesses," she said.

"The only positive thing I can think of is I'm so proud to be part of this community. People have gone above and beyond, everybody has done their bit to try and help, and I'm so grateful.
"This has been a massive team effort. So many people have helped and people from all over the North East have donated. I have spoken to the family over this past week and they are so overwhelmed.
"We are hoping by the time we are done Layton will have the best send-off any little boy could have."
More than £9,000 has also been donated to a separate fundraising drive on the JustGiving website.
Maxine hopes any left over money will help support Stephany and Layton's two older sisters as they begin to come to terms with life without him.
"It's just so devastating for them," she said. "You just never imagine it could happen to your child. I just want Stephany to be able to be with her kids and her family and not stress about money. She's being so strong for her girls. She's amazing."
A 38-year-old man was arrested in connection with the collision, which happened at around 4.50pm. He has since been released under investigation.
