Tribute paid to 'well loved father' killed in Wetherby crash

The family of the man who was killed in a crash outside Wetherby Racecourse say he will be "deeply missed by all".

Adrian Scott, 65, was walking with his friend Lee Roberts, 52, when they shortly after 5pm on Saturday, November 2.

In a statement, his family said: "Adrian was a well-loved father, father-in-law, grandad, brother, brother-in-law , uncle and friend to all who knew him.

"He will be deeply missed by all.

“We would like to thank all those who were with him at the time, especially the emergency services and those who helped at the scene.

"Our thoughts and well wishes go out to Lee Roberts and his family at this tragic time.”

Mr Roberts remains in hospital after he was flown there in an air ambulance in a critical condition.

Mr Scott was Birstall Victoria Rugby League Club's former physiotherapist and Mr Roberts was the club's open-age coach.

Both men had been walking as part of a group towards Wetherby town centre.

The 40-year-old driver of the Mercedes was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, but later released under investigation.

A statement from Birstall Victoria Rugby League Club reads: "It is with great sadness we write this post. Lee Roberts, the club open age coach and former Vic physio Aidy Scott we’re hit by a car yesterday.

"Aidy was tragically killed when the car ran them both over and Lee is left fighting for his life.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with their family and friends at this sad time."

A GoFundMe page has been set up to support Mr Roberts and his family, while he undergoes treatment in hospital.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or the circumstances leading up to it is asked to contact West Yorkshire Police Major Collision Enquiry Team via 101 and quote 13190563820.
