Tribute flag stolen from Castle Douglas branch of Legion Scotland

A flag honouring service personnel has been stolen from Castle Douglas.

The emblem, bearing the legend “Lest We Forget”, was taken from outside the town’s branch of Legion Scotland over the weekend.

A post on their Facebook page on Monday stated: “To the culprit who decided to cut the rope on our flag pole and steal our ‘Lest We Forget Flag’, could you please kindly return it to us, no questions asked, before we take further action and release the CCTV footage?

“What possesses someone to think it is acceptable to steal from a charity?”

News of the theft sparked outrage on social media with people describing those behind the theft as “despicable” and having “no respect”, with one person suggesting it was obvious they hadn’t fought in a war.

Another added: “Disgusting, nothing is sacred in today’s world.”
