PITTSBURGH _ Trib Total Media on Wednesday said it will stop publishing a print edition of its Pittsburgh Tribune-Review newspaper Dec. 1 and will lay off 106 workers as it continues to downsize its print operations and beef up its digital products.
The Pittsburgh company also said it will consolidate its printing operations.
The company will continue to publish two suburban editions of the Tribune-Review and said it will increase resources at those publications to bolster their coverage of local news and sports.
Effective Dec. 1, it will maintain a free, online-only edition of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
"Our commitment to covering news in Pittsburgh and Allegheny County will not change," Jennifer Bertetto, president and chief executive of Trib Total Media said in a statement.
The company last year began a dramatic downsizing that included employee buyouts, layoffs, closing some papers, selling others and cutting back delivery of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review in Allegheny County.
In July, the company again offered buyouts to 400 full-time employees in all departments. At the time, total full-time employment was 585, the company said.
According to a story on the Trib's website, 95 employees accepted the buyout offer. After the layoffs, the company will have 455 employees including 388 full-time and 67 part-time workers.
