April 04--The International Association of Culinary Professionals handed out awards Sunday night for the best cookbooks of the year. Among the winners: Chicago Tribune columnist JeanMarie Brownson, who picked up an award in the children, youth and family" category for her book "Dinner at Home: 140 Recipes to Enjoy With Family and Friends."
If the title sounds familiar, that's because the book is a collection of Brownson's favorite recipes from her Tribune column, "Dinner at Home," which has run since 2007. Brownson served as the test kitchen director of the Tribune from 1980 to 1996. Currently, she is the culinary director and a co-owner of Frontera Foods with Rick Bayless.
Writing last fall, Brownson noted that the book "reflects the way I cook for my family and friends."
"Every meal out proves an inspiration, every trip to the market or grocery store sparks the creation of a dish -- some new and many more familiar. I want to cook foods that nourish both body and soul. Mostly, I want my family and friends at the table with me -- no matter what it holds."
